SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Arena Pharmaceuticals Inc. said it will hold a conference call Friday to discuss study results for its obesity drug candidate lorcaserin.

The late-stage study being discussed is called BLOSSOM.

The announcement of the conference call drove shares higher in after-hours trading. The stock rose $1.29, or 26 percent, to $6.20 in after-hours trading after rising 9 cents to close at $4.91 during the regular trading session.

In June, Arena said lorcaserin helped patients lose and keep off weight in updated data on a clinical trial. Results from the study, called BLOOM, were first reported in March.
