The higher the oil price, the higher chance oil service company will make more money. And the relation is not linear. The average cost of oil in America is around $30-35/barrel. If oil price goes there just like two years ago, a lot of oil companies just stop most of the projects, so oil service company can't make any money. But at current oil price, all the oil companies want to expand its capacity to produce more oil, so the oil service companies can make a lot of money.

oil service companies such as SLB, Hal, BHI do the dirty work(upstream), including drilling the well, logging the formation, and installing the production tube into downhole. Oil service companies work for big oil companies, xom, bp..., independent oil companies, and national oil companies. All the big oil companies are like special banks, which have a lot of money for land leasing, drilling (of course, they pay the oil service company to do the job), and production( the last stage needs a lot of material, costs a lot too).
