More than 200 pilot whales, stranded on a beach in New Zealand, refloated themselves and returned to sea. A high tide helped the animals get back into deeper water. Volunteers also managed to refloat around 100 of more than 400 pilot whales which had beached at Farewell Spit.

The service was part of a celebration of the reopening of the Settle to Carlisle line in Cumbria which had been closed after landslides had damaged the railway line.
