I just gotta vent a bit.
Plenty of folks to blame.  Tremendous team choke.  Yes.  CHOKE.
My list sort of in order of MY view of importance.
1.  Theo.  I've always defended him.  I've also always said he should be
judged on the performance of his team.  No excuses now.  His worst decision
this year.  Crawford.  Hands down.  No way is this guy a premier player.
Next?  Gonzo.  That's right.  Gonzo.  I'm not knocking the player...though I
suppose we could in certain circumstances.  It's just that he was NOT worth
the outlay of BOTH the contract AND the talent they sacrificed IMO.  But the
worst thing was NOT getting this team help when they had a chance to in the
last month.  Part of that is probably due to the last two moves I just
cited.  If ANYONE deserves to lose his job it is Theo.  Let him move to
Chicago.
2.  Lackey...Crawford...and others who simply did NOT do their damn jobs at
various points.  I never assume a guy will put up superhuman numbers...it's
not about that.  But give a sustained, solid effort and   DO   YOUR   JOB!
Especially for these two, I really don't think they did.
3.  Tito.  I can't continue to absolve him.  It hurts to say that for me.
Because I still have the utmost respect and affection for the guy.  But on
several occasions...particularly during this horrifyingly bad stretch of
baseball in the last month...he has simply been as lost as his team.  I
don't know if it's the loss of his support system...coaches that he was
comfortable listening to...relying on their counsel...or what.  But he
hasn't been the steady leader he once was.  Maybe it's the group dynamic in
the room...the clubhouse.  I don't (can't) know.  But ultimately it always
comes down to blaming the leader.  I expect to lose the guy.  That will be a
sad day.  Best damn baseball manager this town ever had IMO.  I'd rather
they let Theo go and shitcan his whole coaching staff.  At least the
pitching and third base coaches as well as looking hard at the trainers and
medical folks.
There will have to be a lot of changes.  I think Tek, Wake and Papi may have
played their last here.  I'll miss every one.  But it's probably time.  We
know Drew is done here.  I hope and pray they can find a way to jettison
Lackey...maybe make Theo take him along as a price for his freedom from the
remaining year of his contract if he WANTS his release.  I'd love to find a
taker for Crawford.  He is simply NOT a fit here.  They MUST sign Jacoby
long term.  EVERYONE else other than Pedey should be fair game to move IMO.
That even includes Youk and Gonzo for the right price.  I'd listen to all
offers.  First they will need a new GM and a plan of course.   Okay.  That's
my stream of consciousness for now in the immediate aftermath.  I'll be
judicious in determining which posts here I will even glance at.  Trolls are
being sorted and kill filed appropriately.  They are sad, sick individuals
and will get theirs in the end.  I won't be sucked into their pathetic
games.
