Tens of thousands of people turned out to watch King Frederik X succeed his mother Queen Margrethe, the first Danish monarch to voluntarily abdicate in more than 800 years. A kiss between King Frederik and his wife, the Australian-born Queen Consort Mary, was met with whoops and cheers from the crowd.

Hundreds of couples gathered in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa to take part in a traditional mass wedding ceremony called Yeshih Gabicha, the first such event in a decade. Dressed in traditional white clothes, the couples sang and danced in the streets outside the wedding venue before the ceremony began.

Kenya's wildlife agency is relocating 21 rare and endangered black rhinos from their sanctuaries, after a rapid increase in their population caused overcrowding. The exercise is seen as a success in Kenya's efforts to conserve black rhinos, which were on the brink of extinction just three decades ago.
