Martin McGuinness's funeral took place at Saint Columba's Church in his native Londonderry-Derry. Large crowds followed the politician's coffin through the Bogside to the church. The paramilitary-turned-peacemaker died on Tuesday after a short illness, aged 66.

An Iraqi girl who fled her home during a battle between Iraqi forces and Islamic State militants near Badush, Iraq. The UN has warned an additional 320,000 civilians may flee in the coming weeks.

Four people died and at least 50 were injured in a terror attack near the Houses of Parliament in London. Doctors and nurses were seen running from nearby St Thomas' Hospital to help those injured on Westminster Bridge while MP Tobias Ellwood was pictured giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to PC Keith Palmer, who was fatally stabbed. The attacker was killed by armed police.

On Thursday evening, hundreds of people attended a candlelit vigil in Trafalgar Square, not far from the scene of Wednesday's attack. Home Secretary Amber Rudd, with London Mayor Sadiq Khan and acting Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Craig Mackey, paid tribute to the people who lost their lives.
