In Australia greyhound racing returned to Sydney's Wentworth Park and other New South Wales tracks for the first time since the state government announced plans to ban it after "horrific" evidence of widespread animal cruelty was uncovered. An ABC Four Corners report aired last year showed piglets, possums and rabbits being chased and killed by dogs in training sessions. NSW Premier Mike Baird announced greyhound racing would be illegal in the state after 1 July 2017.
