从《犹太人百科丛书》（The Jewish Encyclopedia）抄出来的：

"The belief that the soul continues its existence after the dissolution of the body is a matter of philosophical or theological speculation rather than of simple faith, and is accordingly nowhere expressly taught in Holy Scripture."

"The belief in the immortality of the soul came to the Jews from contact with Greek thought and chiefly through the philosophy of Plato, its principal exponent, who was led to it through Orphic and Eleusinian mysteries in which Babylonian and Egyptian views were strangely blended"

相信灵魂在肉体腐烂后继续存在…在神圣的经文里是没有提到的…犹太人的灵魂不灭论是通过和希腊人的接触，主要是柏拉图的哲学，而柏拉图是从巴比伦和埃及那儿所结合。

革利免（Clement）Stromata第6卷第8章写道：“哲学是[神]特别给希腊人的契约，是理解基督的踏脚石”“philosophy more especially was given to the Greeks, as a covenant peculiar to them -- being, as it is, a stepping-stone to the philosophy which is according to Christ”也有译为“Philosophy has been given to the Greeks as their own kind of Covenant, their foundation for the philosophy of Christ”后半句是“成了基督的哲学奠基石”。
