Sasa Vectomov was one of the great Czech cellists.
He was born in 1930 in a family of musicians. His first teacher was his father, Ivan, who was a solo cellist in Czech Philharmonic.
Vectomov studied with Ladislav Zelenka at the Prague Conservatory and subsequently on the Academy of Musical Arts. Later he took a graduate course with Couzlupov in Moscow and after that he studied with Andre Navarra.
He recorded many albums for Czech label Supraphon. He played as a soloist throughout Europe, in South America, Japan, India, Egypt etc.
He was a member of Czech Trio and Prague String Quartet and teached at the Prague Conservatory. He played on two instruments, Alessandro Gagliano of 1712. and Antonio Guadanini of 1754.
Unfortunately, Sasa left the world surprisingly at 59 and never got the international reputation he deserved.
It was said that he had 30 different glissandos in his playing technique. |
