The major indexes welcomed December with determined gains Tuesday.
The NYSE composite powered ahead 1.7%. The Nasdaq composite gapped up to gain 1.5%. The Dow and the S&P 500 each added 1.2%.
The Dow made a new closing high for 2009.
Preliminary data show the session served up a second day of gains, but volume was mixed. It rose on the Nasdaq but fell on the NYSE.
Gold over $1,200 today. The dollar gets pounded sending stocks soaring.
Wednesday's relatively light economic calendar includes initial jobless claims, due out prior to the market open, and the Institute of Supply Managers Service Index for November, to be released at 10 a.m. EST.
