3. Hope, a four-year old female rhino that survived a horrific poaching attack thanks to dramatic medical intervention, recovers at Shamwari Game Reserve in South Africa on May 26. Poachers darted Hope with tranquillizers and hacked off her horn, leaving her for dead. After the attack, Hope was transferred to Shamwari Game Reserve where surgery was performed to fit the protective plate that covers the wound.
