In Sierra Leone, ‘Pastor’ rapes 5years old Girl

A 45-year-old Pastor Emmanuel Kelly, whose church was not identified, was charged to court yesterday Tuesday August 23, 2011 with 3 count charges.

Count 1 of the Statement of Offence states: Abuse of young girl contrary to Section 6 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Children’s Act Cap 31 of the Laws of Sierra Leone 1960. The particulars of offence of Pastor Kelly happened on Tuesday August 9, 2011 at Spur Loop in Freetown where he viciously abused a five year girl, whose name is withheld for legal reasons.

Count 2 the statement of offence reads Indecent Assault contrary to Section 9 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Children Act Cap 31 of Laws of Sierra Leone.

Pastor Kelly was also charged for indecently assaulting a teenage girl.

Pastor Kelly was before Magistrate Wellington of Court No 2 where the charges were read to him. No plea was taken and Magistrate Johanes Wellington refused the accused bail.

Magistrate Wellington said the accused cannot be given bail as it is a serious offence. No lawyer for the accused person and he was sent to Pademba Road Prisons. The matter has been adjourned to Saturday August 27, 2011.
