• Currently, Apple (AAPL) share price is above $300. It has a modified market‐cap weight of 21
percent in the Nasdaq100 (NDX).
• NASDAQ will implement a complete index rebalancing if a name is more than 24 percent of
the NDX and the “collective weight” of those Index securities, whose individual current weights
are in excess of 4.5%, when added together, exceed 48.0% of the Index.
• Currently, the “collective weight” is 30.3 percent (sum of the weights of AAPL, QCOM and
GOOG). A special rebalancing of the Index may be conducted at any time if it is determined
necessary to maintain the integrity of the Index.
• In a hypothetical scenario if AAPL’s current weight is over 24% and NasdaqOMX decides to
rebalance the NDX and NasdaqOMX manually adjusts AAPL’s weight to 20%. We estimate a sell
of $1.1 billion of AAPL or 3.7 million AAPL shares. This is approximately 0.2 days of average daily
volume.
• On a side‐note, we do not anticipate AAPL will be added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average
(DJIA) at AAPL’s current price. DJIA is a price‐weighted average of 30 stocks. Since the names are
weighted by the price of the stocks, higher price will incur higher weight. Recently, Apple’s
(AAPL) share price is above 300. If AAPL were to be added into the DJIA, it will have a weight of
more than 17%. Since 1990, the largest weight in the Index was 12.5%. Also, if AAPL is being
added to DJIA today, it will raise the Information Technology sector weight from 17% to 32%. It
will cause the Index to be overly skewed to the technology sector.
• Supposedly, if AAPL is to do a 2‐for‐1 stock‐split, it will bring the price to slightly over $150. If
the corporate action is to occur and DJ elects to add AAPL into DJIA, AAPL will have a weight of
approximately 10%, bringing the Technology sector weight from 17.2% to 25%. We think at this
sector exposure level, it would be more realistic for DJ to consider adding AAPL.

While Cree's headline earnings number was impressive relative to the year-ago period, it wasn't enough to prevent a flood of selling in after hours trading. The stock is down on the fact that revenues missed the target number by $9.7 million, and on lower than expected guidance. CREE sees Q2 earnings of 56-60 cents on sales of $270-$280 million versus consensus estimates of 60 cents and $297.04 million. As we saw today, there's little tolerance for any disappointment and Cree's miss on a number of fronts is resulting in the stock getting hammered in early after hours trading.
