Software:

For mac: using garageband will do the job, of course there are some more advanced software. For windows, there is a audio recorder, for the simplest task it can do. Then maybe you can maybe use goldwave which I didn't try it before though. I used garageband -- for the first time for this purpose.

Hardware: the simplest option is the use the build-in microphone, but the effect is not that ideal. I used the karaOK device in my home.

Microphone -> mixer -> (effector adds some echo to make the voice sound less dry) -> computer line-in -> garageband -> mp3 -> your mobile device e.g. iphone.

Audacity is a good software to use, I use a mix of this and GarageBand for my Mac but there's also a Windows version of Audacity
