I have to say that Jeff Bezos is the best CEO in a tech company nowadays after Steve Jobs passed away.
Amazon's announcement today is impressive.

basic kindle - $69

kindle paperlight - $119

kindle paperlight 3g - $179

old kindle fire 8g get new CPU, double RAM and bigger battery - $159

new kindle fire hd, 1920 x 1200 resolution, 16g storage - $199

new kindle fire hd, 8.9 inch version - $299

new kindle fire, 8.9 inch version, with 32G storage and 4G LTE - $499

At this price point, the new kindle fire is a real impulsive buy.

Bezos never cared about EPS and Amazon has little to no debt.
Remember, Bezos is Amazon's biggest shareholder, unlike other CEO, he cannot be fired. Therefore he has the ability to do things like this to grab marketshare.
With all the offers of $79 Amazon Prime, amazon plan to make money in the long run, a similar strategy to Gillette, they sell razors dirt cheap but makes money on razor blades.
Netflix and B&N is gonna be in big trouble.

yeah, and it's targeting Google Nexus 7

1280x800 resolution

Kindle Fire HD - $199 version
16G storage
1920x1200 resolution

Now let's see what Apple has to offer next week :)

edit: i was wrong, the 7 inch kindle HD is 1280x800 resolution, same with Nexus 7
