Up Mondays and Down Tuesdays

The S&P 500 hasn't rallied by more than 1% on a Monday in more than three months. The last time we had a 1%+ Monday was on March 21st when the index rallied 1.50%. Since the bull market began in March 2009, there have been 24 Mondays in which the S&P gained more than 1%. As shown below, the index has averaged a decline of 0.08% on the Tuesday following these 24 Mondays, and it has averaged a decline of 0.13% over the next four trading days (the rest of the week). Interestingly, the last 8 times the S&P has rallied by more than 1% on a Monday, it has declined on the following day. If we manage to close up more than 1% today, hopefully the streak of Tuesday losses ends tomorrow.
