Google changes tune, search still working in China
Google backs off report of Internet search being cut off in China, blames system error

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Google says its search engine and several other services are working normally in mainland China after previously reporting the service had been completely blocked.

The company's system for tracking Internet access may have misinterpreted what was happening to its search, mobile and advertising services in China, according to a Google statement issued late Thursday.

That probably caused a minor blockage to be exaggerated in a status report updated each day on Google's website.

The initial alert about Google's search engine being completely cut off from China raised questions about whether the country's communist government was retaliating against the company for taking a stand against its online censorship policies.

China also is running into the problem of finding its industry now being exported to places which exploit workers even more, like Bangladesh (now the main garment exporter to Europe and the USA). But even the Banglesh garment workers are rising up for their rights, and someplace like Cambodia might take their jobs. For us common people wherever we are, we have to see that we have more in common with other working people than with our own so-called leaders and forget national prejudices and join hands with them. Or we'll end up all being slaves with what good left in our world also being trashed. I think Marx called it a "world historical consciousness", in which we are able to perceive that capitalism has brought us altogether into one history and that all our fates are tied together.

My biggest peeve about China was that the land of the bicycle is becoming the land of automobile. And ironically, America is rediscovering the bicycle.

I am opposed to totalitarian governments. They have no moral basis. The pretense that oppression is for the greater good of the people is ludicrous. China's government is neither for the people, or a republic. What they call themselves is meaningless. They are just the most recent in a long list of dynastic warlords. The nicer we are to these thugs, the more powerful and dangerous they will become. That's been proven historically. Google should have stuck to its guns, and applied its not inconsiderable resources to circumventing this rogue government entirely.

China has the common sense to know that Google is an arm of the USA government.
Snooping is their aim, deceiving is their game.

I think its a test of their ability to block unwanted internet activity. It has military implications.

          To R T.
Man, u r funny. no offense. Maybe u r right about China got rich by selling goods to western countries. But, c'mon man, US probably is the only western country which can not be blamed for making China rich because without China lending almost 1 trillon dollars to US, U got no money to buy nothing. If I were U, and I owed someone else 1 trillion dollars, I won't brag about how i made that guy rich. I'll think more about how i dug a multi-trillion dollars hole and still keep on digging. God bless America
