US Natural Gas Fund May Move Investments Out Of US Gas Futures
Oct 13, 2009 14:28:53 (ET)
HOUSTON (Dow Jones)--United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) said Tuesday that it could put all of its investments in other natural gas-related investments because of possible regulatory changes, according to a government filing.
The exchange-traded fund said Tuesday that it expects futures contracts to remain its principal investment, but the fund's management has determined that "UNG may need to invest a larger portion, or potentially all, of its investments" in other natural gas-related investments to comply with expected changes in accountability levels and position limits, according to the filing.
UNG said it could invest in cash-settled options on futures contracts, forward contracts for natural gas, cleared swap contracts, and over-the-counter transactions that are based on the price of natural gas, crude oil and other petroleum-based fuels. The fund is scheduled to begin selling November futures and buying December futures on Wednesday.
Shares of UNG recently traded down 4.6% to $11.28 apiece.
