Non-resident investors resumed significant acquisitions of Canadian securities in July, adding $11.8-billion to their holdings, mainly in federal treasury bills.
Statistics Canada reports Canadian holdings of foreign securities edged up $1.3-billion, led by further acquisitions of foreign corporate shares.
Non-residents acquired $7.3-billion of Canadian money market instruments in July, led by federal treasury bills.
Foreign investors resumed acquisition of Canadian bonds in July, adding $2-billion to their portfolios following large government bond retirements in June.
Non-resident investors added a further $2.5-billion of Canadian corporate shares to their holdings in July.
Canadian investors continued to acquire $2.8-billion in foreign equities in July, primarily in U.S. corporate shares.
