Don't play GLD, play Gold Mutual fund!!!

Recently I found out ETF GLD performance is a lot less good than gold oriented mutual funds. See chart:

I compared FSAGX, USERX, GOLDX with GLD, the difference is huge:

A lot of commodity ETF have problems, typical are USO, UNG, etc.

GLD actually is much better than other commodity ETFs, since the ETF GLD actually holds gold bullions.

well, I think you should use GDX to compare with other mutual funds. It's pretty close.

Sorry, nobody should keep his/her GLD or gold mutual funds for that long period.

GOLDX allows people to sell after 10 days hold.
USERX, FSAGX allows people to sell after 30 days hold.

They are designed for short term trading.

Only Vanguard want you keep long, but it is closed to new investors for many years now. It is a top performer.

No-load  mutual funds do not incur commission like GLD, but they usually have a frequent-trader policy.

Be careful to know your limitations before investing, otherwise, you will be kicked out pretty soon.

你没有提到的是，GDX现在还比2008年的高点低20%，而GLD早已创了新高。

你更忽略的地方是，GDX从最高到最低点时跌了68%，而GLD只跌了31%左右。

Those double triple BULL/BEAR ETFs are never designed for buy-and-hold.Wall Street has warned us many many times.

If you buy and hold GDX, FAZ, FAS, etc. then that is your own fault.

Its net expense ratio is 0.55%, lower than most MF in precious metals category.

I have GDX in my Roth IRA for trading, and FSAGX in 401(K) for investment.
