I got wiped out for shorting even without using margin long time ago.

Upside is unlimited in theory, so can always hit margin no matter how much you short.

Sorry for that. I ever lost 10,000 by shorting BAC in March, but made more by holding BAC in March. Long positon is much more comfortable for me, becasue it will come back as long as the company is good and the economy gets over.
